Walking in and around nearby towns

A network of signposted routes connect some of the small towns in the local area, as well as offering circular routes. A great way to connect to the natural heritage and discover more of the Meastrat.

Natural Parks - Parque Natural Tenencia de Benifasar

To the north of Casa de Olivos is a mountainous, inland protected park with vast picturesque open space and a few small villages. Access the area by car from La Senia or Rossell and enjoy a wide variety of routes through this natural landscape.

Natural Parks - Parque Natural Sierra D’Irta

The Parque Natural Sierra D’Irta is a mountainous natural park following the coastline south from Peñiscola to Alcossebre. The rugged coast is dotted with little coves, some only large enough for a few bathers at a time, and the dramatic backdrop of the mountains gives a great sense of isolation and nature.

Popular with bird watchers and naturalists, the park is well signposted for walking trails, points of interest and information on the native plants and birdlife.

Why not finish your walk with refreshments in Peñiscola on the citadel in the sea, and enjoy the views over the Mediterranean from the comfort of a chair.

Natural Parks - Parque Natural del Delta del Ebro

North-east of Casa de Olivos by car on the Tarragona coast is the Delta Ebro where the mighty Ebro river meets the sea. The expanse of fertile soils deposited over millennia are home to huge numbers of migratory birds and the area is renowned as a bird watching mecca.

The long, arching sand bars that reach out either side of the Ebro form two beaches that seem to go on forever and are generally sparsely populated.

Here are three sample routes on Wikiloc that you might like to try.
